Actor Jon Voight explained in an interview that he did not think America would be destroyed like so many other countries that have been attacked by socialism, communism and Marxism.
The reason: The remnant of Christian believers.
Calling the United States “God’s country,” Voight argued that Americans’ religious faith will preserve the nation for future generations, according to Daily Wire.
“There’s a reason why we say, ‘In God we trust,'” he said. “Because we do. And God is written in every part of our story. So we’re not going to disappear. We’re going to survive this, and the truth will prevail.”
When Candace Owens interviewed the Academy Award-winning actor, she cited the division apparent in every segment of American culture. “It feels like the people who have the most power are trying to do the most damage,” she explained.
But, Voight reminded her that God is still in his seat and those who try to sow discord will ultimately be destroyed by it.
“God will show his face. And those who are blessed to see the truth like yourself,” he said to Owens, “will show us the way out and God will be exposing things as we go. We will rise again.”
I found Voight’s interview to be quite encouraging in light of all the news stories that remind us of the signs Apostle Paul warned us about in 2 Timothy 3:1-2:
“But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God — having a form of godliness but denying its power.”
Many Christians feel that passage adequately describes America today. In fact, Ruth Graham, the wife of legendary pastor Billy Graham, once said that if God doesn’t pass judgement on America soon, then he owes Sodom and Gomorrah an apology.
It’s interesting that Ruth mentioned those cities destroyed by God because their sin was so grievous (Genesis 18:16-33). It was so bad that the men of Sodom surrounded a home visited by two angels and demanded that the owner bring them out of the house so the men could have sex with them (Genesis 19:4-11).
However, the fate of Sodom and Gomorrah reveals hope for America.
When God told Abraham that he intended to destroy the two cities because of their wickedness, Abraham asked God if he would kill the righteous as well as the unrighteous. In Genesis 18:23-32, God promises that he will not destroy the cities if he can find as few as ten righteous people living in them.
Unfortunately for Sodom and Gomorrah, God’s angels could only five four righteous people: Lot, his wife and his two daughters, so the cities were destroyed.
But, despite what the mainstream media will proclaim, there are many more than ten righteous people living in America’s cities.
For that reason, I suspect Voight is correct. The remnant of believers in America will be enough that the country will not be destroyed. Rather, the unrighteous will be destroyed instead.
Unless, of course, the world’s sin is so strong that we truly are living in the last days of earth. In that case, people who take sides in the culture war and declare Jesus to be their king will be removed from earth ahead of the great rapture promised in Revelation and Luke 17:26-37.
Either way, Christians win in the end.
So, meditate and rest upon God’s promise from 2 Chronicles 20:17:
You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the Lord will give you, Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Go out to face them tomorrow, and the Lord will be with you.
